We partnered with a technology player active in the aviation and defense sector, engaged in developing software platforms for the operational management of aircraft fleets. Among the projects delivered, a platform for the Italian National Fire Corps that coordinates thousands of flight missions, rescue operations and maintenance activities across the country every year.

The Challenge

A monolithic application to make scalable and resilient

The existing platform, built as a monolithic ASP.NET MVC application, handled intervention requests, fleet assignment and real-time aircraft assignment. As operational volumes grew, the architecture showed its limits:

  • Difficulty scaling individual features independently
  • Slow, risky release cycles on a single codebase
  • Limited resilience under request spikes or partial failures
  • No structured DevOps flows for automated testing and deployment

The Solution

Porting to a cloud-native microservice architecture

Reengineering led the full porting of the platform to a cloud-native, microservice-oriented architecture on Microsoft Azure, contributing both to the internal software architecture design and, as a technology partner, to the design of the production infrastructure on Azure.

The platform is now operational in support of fleet management for the Italian National Fire Corps, coordinating a significant volume of activity across the country every year:

  • Over 9,000 flight missions managed every year
  • More than 5,000 rescue operations coordinated
  • Over 1,000 maintenance procedures tracked
  • More than 8,000 components monitored throughout their lifecycle
